Compliance with health and safety requirements

The Health and Safety at Work Act: 1974 is the primary legislation covering occupational health and safety in the UK, supplemented by many regulations that cover a wide range of subjects and activities including the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

GeoloGIS aims to comply with all applicable legal and other requirements that relate to the occupational health and safety risks associated with our activities.

Health and Safety general policy

Responsibility for health and safety lies with the Director of GeoloGIS Ltd; e will:

•   provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities
•   consult with employees, client staff and contractors on all matters affecting health and safety
•   provide and maintain safe equipment
•   ensure safe handling and use of substances
•   provide information, instruction and supervision for employees
•   ensure employees and contractors are competent at their tasks and provide adequate training
•   undertake job-specific risk assessments in collaboration with clients
•   prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health
•   maintain safe and healthy working conditions, and
•   review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.

Risk assessments will be made in advance of specific activities to ensure that any action required to remove or control risk is identified and carried out.

Geological investigation commonly involves working in remote, hilly or mountainous country in changeable weather conditions; information and advice as to best practice in such circumstances can be found in a number of publications including the British Mountaineering Council guide Safety on Mountains.

We may also expect to examine exposures in potentially dangerous locations such as quarries or construction sites, in which case the owner/manager of the site will be consulted in advance regarding safe working practices and appropriate precautions taken.

This policy is reviewed annually as part of our management review
