Equality & Diversity

Opposing discrimination, harassment, prejudice and victimisation

Legislative framework

The Equality Act 2010 protects the rights of individuals and equality of opportunity for all. It updates, simplifies and strengthens legislation developed over previous decades to create a simple, modern and accessible framework of discrimination law to protect individuals from unfair treatment and promote a fair and equal society.

The Government's webpage Equality Act 2010: What do I need to know? contains summary guides to the Act explaining how the legislation affects different people and organisations with practical examples and guides that set out clearly what the law means for business, voluntary sectors and the public
